February 25 Penny for my thoughts?Blessed are those who actually talk to their parents! XD
I find that not many teens, or the new generation for that matter, actually talk to their parents. Before I go on, let me first define the word "talk" in this context. I am implying deep conversations, about up close 'n personal issues, seeking advice and etc. Because simply speaking, IF you DO live in a family, conversations are inevitable. Unless your family happens to consist of people who are either never there or have some unique way of communicating (smoke signals, perhaps?
The only thing that's different is the depth of those conversations. "Lunch is ready, and today we're having springroll, ham omelette and kangkung belacan," can also be defined as talking, you see.
You don't even have to think to be able to do that. There's a difference between small talk and real conversations. And yeah, I know there's this thing going around about how parents can't understand their teenagers, and that's why they'd rather turn to their friends.
Hello? Your friends probably know only as much as you do. And you know, when the blind leads the blind, both end up in the ditch. Parents are the wisest, because they've gone through what you're going through right now, and tonnes more. They have what you call the experience. And most probably a more mature point of view too, even if they can't just give you all the answers. Not mentioning the fact that they'd be forced to tell you about themselves in the process, so you'll definitely become closer to them. XD
Becoming your parents' best friend, you have nothing to lose, and the whole world to gain. XD Take my word on this. And you'll have the wisdom of 50 years in your youth. Can't hurt much now, can it? Be smart. *wink*
Author's Disclaimer: Now if your parents are dysfunctional, or YOU are, then none of the above applies to your situation. hehe. February 23 Heads up.I think I'm gonna stop blogging for a while. It's not like I have anything blog-worthy to blog about anyway.
And it's a waste of time, particularly since the exam is one week away. I should be reading my Greek--- I mean CHINESE textbook now. See? I can't even differenciate between Greek and Chinese. And speaking of differenciation...Oh, if you don't mind, I'd rather not talk, or even THINK about it yet.
So long. February 16 V Day and CNY. XPEddie must have been desperate. *spluttering in laughter* BAD TASTE, YOU HEAR ME? For those of you who have no idea of what I'm talking about, nevermind. It's a little private joke between the both of us for Valentine's Day. Anyway, it's been kinda eventful lately, with V Day and CNY dates (tarikh, not you-know-what) so close together. I must say it was really a lot of fun buying small stuff for (guy)friends and surprising them with V Day gifts. But now I know better. Next time, I'll send roses to make them turn red in the face. Experience is a good teacher. XD And just today, I was pleasantly surprised by CNY cards from KM, Andy and Bryan. KM even hand-delivered his to my class! Adeline also got one from him too. Waxing eloquent, life DOES have its highs. Yeah, I also got customary cards from other friends, but this is the first time they ever gave me a card. Hehe. So now I have a (half-wilted) rose sitting on my table and quite a few CNY cards. Friends are truly a blessing. =) February 07 The Old Testament was of some use after all. XDAn amazing thing happened about 2 weeks ago. Okay, perhaps not that amazing, but interesting all the same.
I forgot to study for the History test held on Wednesday. So much for having a memory. -________- Amy forgot to study for it too. XD I guess it just wasn't important enough to remember. Anyway, it was a short objective evaluation on the first chapter, the uh, Kemunculan Tamadun Awal Manusia.
And there was one question in particular that I didn't have the slightest idea what the answer was. Here's the essence of the question : Selepas kejatuhan kerajaan Chaldea, kerajaan mana yang telah menguasai Tamadun Mesopotamia?
I KNEW IT WAS IN THE TEXTBOOK, SOMEWHERE. But I forgot to study, remember? My brain went whirring all of a sudden, and I found myself connecting the facts to those found in the Bible. Chaldea (if it has anything to do with the Hanging Garden of Babylon, it's Babylon), Nebuchadnezzar (whom I knew was the King of Babylon) and this, all from the Old Testament in the Bible. Then I remembered, after the fall of Belshazzar (the king who was feasting when the Writing on the Wall occurred and was scared stiff), the kingdom was taken over by the Persian and the Medes. Voila! The answer was Kerajaan PARSI!
Proves how accurate the Bible is huh? In fact, in learning all about the Mesopotamia Civilization, I applied what I had learnt from the Old Testament, and wow, it has made my learning so much easier. Like for instance, the temple would be the city centre, and so was the Temple of Jerusalem. And the temple is supposed to be the storehouse of national treasures, and SO WAS THE TEMPLE OF JERUSALEM! The holy tablets, remember? Woohoo!
THE OLD TESTAMENT rocks! Muahaha. All those years in Sunday School reinforced my learning of History.
Oh and a footnote here : Amy and I both got 92%, which means we got only 2 questions wrong out of 25. Guess God blessed us. XD February 01 Ten years down the road.Ten years down the road. It's interesting predicting what might happen...
One day, after my 26th birthday, I go for an interview and guess who I bump into in the form of an interviewer. Eddie Chang! That guy hasn't changed much, but the both of us, being on professional terms, decide to act formal. "How'd you do, Mr Eddie." "How are you, (he hesitates and looks down at the resume)Miss May?" I detect a slight twinkle in his eye as he suppresses a snicker. I can read his mind. He chuckles "I told you so" not very subtly under his breath. I understand perfectly and strains to see if he has a wedding ring himself. Yes, he has one. I expected it anyway. xD
And someday, I bump into Kong Min in a restaurant, after not seeing him for ages. We all went separate ways after SPM anyway. In his trademark enthusiastic way, he greets me. No bother about being formal. "Hey May! How're you doing? I really missed you and Amy! Wah, long time no see," much to the chagrin of his pretty girlfriend (whoever that is) sitting across the table from him. Slightly worried, I hastily explain our buddy-buddy relationship. Some things never change. ;p
One day, on holiday to Australia, I develop a mild case of flu and visited a pharmacy. Guess who the pharmacist is. Amy! She really migrated, true to her word! Guess the Malaysian system was just too lousy to bear with. Oh, and she isn't married yet, but planning to in a few months time. When I ask about her future hubby, she merely blushes but says nothing. We talk about how many children she's planning to have, what kinda house would be the most conducive learning environment for her children, what courses would her children take in the future...whoa, a bit far-fetched already.
Just some thoughts. xD |
